Vulkan Eifel

Inside Nurburgring - complete with rollercoaster

Nurburgring

Cow Detour

Our First Lake

Mike is currently on TDY in Phoenix but before he left we had a few unexpected days to spend together. We decided to explore the region we live in which used to have high volcanic activity. The volcanoes caused perfectly round lakes to be formed and so we headed off on the Deutsche Vulkan Strasse (German Volcanic Road) in search of some lakes. We took a six hour trip winding on back roads from our village, north to Koblenz and back again. We found many lakes and picturesque towns but unfortunately it was too cold and rainy for swimming. We even met some friendly cows. To follow the road we were looking for tiny brown signs and at one point we strayed off the road and ended up at the Nurburgring! So we decided to stop and check out some racing action. Once we found the road again we saw a bunch of cars parked on the side watching another stretch of race track so we checked that out too. All in all it was a surprising, spontaneous day and we felt that we had made the best of Mike's extra days at home.

Welcome

Welcome to our blog! We have now been in Europe for two years and I thought it was about time that I let all of our friends and family know what we are doing. I'll try my best to update and add new pictures as often as possible.
