Last week my friends Emily, Ali and I (plus Ali's boys) decided to take advantage of the absence of our husbands to take a road trip to Salzburg, Austria. The main draw of Salzburg for us was the Sound of Music! The movie was filmed on location in and around Salzburg. Because of this there are many Sound of Music tours where tour guides drive you around and show you all the spots from the movie. I can't speak for Jamal and Shyam but Mike was definitely not interested :-)
Emily and I spent the night at Ali's and the next morning we woke up before the sun to drive 6 hours to Salzburg. We got there, checked in, and headed off to our tour. We were definitely the most enthusiastic Sound of Music fans on the tour. No one else even sang along with the songs!! The next day we headed to Berchtesgaden (Germany) to go on a salt mine tour. We got to wear miner's jumpsuits and they took us on a train down into the mine. There were a couple wooden slides, a boat ride across an underground lake, and lots of info on salt mining which we didn't understand as the tour was in German. oops! Oh and by the way - the line was huge to buy tickets for the mine. Emily and Ali voted that I should go up front to see what the deal was. I may have cut in line a little bit. Emily and Ali pretended to disapprove but they enjoyed the lack of waiting in line :-) Our final day we headed back to Berchtesgaden to check out Hitler's Eagle's nest. Unfortunately there was another huge line without any opportunity of cutting so we decided to head back home. We all agreed that we had to bring our husbands back so we'll save the Eagle's Nest for then.
It was a fantastic girl's trip!!
